Take me to Church

Yesterday my boyfriend and I decided to try out this new church by us. We just moved to this town a couple of months ago and we’ve always passed it on our way home but never got the chance until yesterday. I was excited but also nervous about stepping into a new environment, but I’m glad we did. As soon as we stepped into church I felt God’s presence it was undeniable, my boyfriend whispered in my ear “you were right about this church.” I smiled back at him with a full heart ready to have my spirit and heart filled with the holy spirit.

The choir began singing “It is well” by Bethel music, the lead singer had a captivating voice that had the whole room on their feet worshipping with their eyes closed and hands raised receiving God’s spirit. I couldn’t help but feel my feet urging me to stand and my hands desperately asking to reach God. My voice with out holding back began singing, eyes closed, my heart knew the lyrics and began singing.

It’s been a while since I felt this way, allowing myself getting carried by God’s spirit. I couldn’t help but to feel joy and peace in my heart. After a few minutes the pastor led us in a prayer. I whispered to my heart I am ready, my heart, mind and spirit are ready to receive. The pastor titled his sermon “The journey into your destiny”. The three key points he spoke about was receiving God’s grace, how to overcome sin, and the reckless love of God. All in which he did in my opinion an incredible job explaining each individually and with God’s wisdom.

I just want to share a couple things from what I learned and maybe it can be a useful for you.

God’s grace: We are all under God’s grace not because we deserve but because he loves us. God has already forgiven you from the sins you have committed and the sins you will commit. We as humans are not perfect and we may never be, if we slip up and sin just know that God still loves you. Yet we have to learn how to overcome and learn our lesson to not commit the same sin.

How to overcome sin: The pastor spoke about Joseph son of Jacob and Rachel. Genesis 39 3-23 The lord was with Joseph and gave success in everything he did. The Lord was with Joseph and his master Potiphar an Egyptian who was one of the pharaoh’s officials took favor to Joseph, and welcome him into his home making him in charge of his household and entrusting him with everything the owned. Potiphar’s wife took notice of Joseph and said “Come to bed with me!”

But he refused. “With me in charge,” he told her, “my master does not concern himself with anything in the house; everything he owns he has entrusted to my care. 9 No one is greater in this house than I am. My master has withheld nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?”

This was a great example on how Joseph overcame sin. He teaches us that it was not his will power that made him overcome sin, but his love for God. I couldn’t help but see my life different after the pastor explained that it’s not about our will that helps us overcome sin itself but God him self.

The Reckless Love of God : God’s love will find you he will climb mountains, break down boarders, and seek you in the darkest parts of your life. He will never fail you even if you have failed him countless times. Have you felt an undying love from the one that formed you in your mother’s womb? The one that knows when and where you will fail but will love you anyways. He knows the plans he has for you, could you take a moment and see what he has done for you. It’s not about us but it’s about the one that has never turned his back.

I’ am a Jersey native , born in El Salvador a small little country in Central America. Arrived to the United States, when I was four years old, not knowing where life will take me. Fast Forward eighteen years later, I’m twenty-three living with my boyfriend, his mom, and three brothers. Life can become hectic and extraordinary full of adventures and struggles, emotional and physical pain. Writing has been the number one source where I can express myself fully. Hopefully my writing can inspire you and help, where ever you are, who ever you are I want you to know you’re not alone and you are important. xo Cece
